Central Region Biathlon Competition 2019 – South-Western Ontario Area

Training
Competition
Cadets traveled to and stayed at CFB Borden Friday evening. They rose early Saturday Morning to travel to Nordic Highlands Ski Club located at Duntroon.
While here in the early day cadets had exposure and training on skate skis. A former cadet and national competitor in the Biathlon program worked with cadets from all the areas present and at all ski levels.
In order to be able to compete cadets were made to take breaks during the intense cold that was experienced in this area on Saturday.
Cadets after their morning training and warming/rest periods were to compete in a ski one loop, shoot, then ski another loop competition. Due to temperatures reaching near our cut off limit of -20 degrees Celsius we converted the competition into a ski one loop only race.

Sunday January 20th, 2019
Due to the incredible cold yesterday and the even colder forecast for Sunday, competition organizers had to adapt the competition in order for competitors to meet requirements for the next stage of the competition.
Our day moved from Duntroon to the Orangeville Agricultural Society Building. Here cadets ran an indoor course to avoid the minus 20 and much further below wind gusts. Cadets ran a loop indoors, fired their daisy pellet air rifles, ran a second loop, shot again, then ran a final third loop to the finish line.

Congratulations to PO2. A McFarlane, and MS T. Betts for their 2nd place finish in the SWOA – Central Region, biathlon competition.
They, along with the rest of the team, have worked hard leading up to this weekends events. Even in the extreme weather they continued to push themselves to best their previous performances at this competition.
Saturdays skiing times were combined with their run and shoot times to establish a final result.
BRAVO ZULU to the whole team for their efforts this season. All competitors have improved on their past results.
